My experience with Kodak IR is that its emulsion is very sensitive to touch
and processing. I use cotton gloves to load and and unload the film. I
also pre-soak the film for several miniutes before developmemt. This
prevents most of my pinholes and whorls.
Re the plastic issue, I think the little red diode gives us a good idea of
one problem. Several years ago in a class some people were having problems
with fog in loading and unloading IR at home. In the class room, ignoring
thumbs, there were no problems regardless of equipment. At home there were
windows and incandescent bulbs. In the class room there were no windows and
flourescent lights. There are a lot more variables, but these did appear.
