Scanning vs Prints

I scan the negs because the latitude of the neg is greater than the
latitude of any print ... and I don't have a darkroom.  At least with a
scanner *I* have the control.  I accept the argument (implied) that a print
is the real representation of the photographer's vision (a somewhat Ansel
Adams attitude ... and I am a fan of his) but I work completely digitally
other than the original photograph out of convenience as much as anything
else.  I'd use a digital camera if the good backs were no very very very
expensive :-(

Also ... are slide scanner so much more expensive than good flat-beds?
