Filters between film rails

The talk about placing an IR filter beween the film rails got me
thinking. As a medium format shooter, placing the filter in the film
back seemed (initially) like a viable alternative!
First thoughts where along the lines of being able to view/focus the
camera with a filter in-place....then my thoughts turned to dust &
hairs!!!!
Surely a filter so close to the film plane would be a real problem with
regards to dust & hairs! Unlike filters infront of the lens filters so
close to the film plane would IMHO be extremely problematic!
You thoughts on the issue.....
