Infrared-stop filter - Help!

I have made a panning digital camera from a handheld scanner, and need a
IR-stop
filter for shooting normal color photos. (I also want to shoot IR). The
CCD is about 29mm long.
The best I have found so far is a "Hot Mirror" from Edmund Scientific.
It reflects IR and
passes visible. The spectral response curves look excellent, but it is
thick and expensive.
I would like to put it between the lens and the CCD, so I can use it
with any lens.
The 3mm thick will require a focus compensation, and I am afraid that it
will upset the
optical design of the lens and cause distortion. A 50 mm square costs
nearly $50.
I checked WJ's home page and found the wratten 43/44A and B&W 489 listed
as
"IR stop". I looked up the 44A and called B&W. This filter does stop IR,
but also a lot
in the 400-560nm range. It is described as "light blue-green" - not what
I want.
Can anyone please suggest any other options!
advTHANKSance!
