Hi Jacqueline:
I just tried printing some normal and some IR negs on the new Cachet
paper, the cold tone, VC fiber kind. I don't do a lot of testing or
calibrating, so I only have qualitative impressions, but I was happy with
the results. The whites were clean, the blacks were pretty deep before
toning, and the gradation is I think reminiscent of the Oriental (I haven't
actually compared the paper curves, of course.) I had used Oriental
Seagull Select VC for some time as one of two favorites (other was Ilford
MGFB III), but when I switched from a condenser to an Aristo cold light I
found I could not get the Oriental to match my lower contrast negs (problem
must be the spectrum of the cold light). The Cachet is better by about a
full paper grade (or filter number) but is still limited on the high
contrast side compared to the MGFB under my light. I really don't know how
this experience translates to other enlarger light sources. I've printed
some of my IR negs (both Kodak HIE and Konica 750) on Brilliants graded
papers with good results too (if you don't mind some unpredictable curling
on drying)
