You might be surprised to know that these are starting to reach the
US$15,000 level, pretty close to high end digital cameras.
I have seen two higher models in a demo, one tripod mounted remote
controlled, with 0.1C resolution, heavy as a pig, and US$125,000; and
one neatly compact handheld model, 1.0C resolution, for US$35,000.
Oddly enough it is the Germanium lens that makes the difference
between the 15k and the 35k model....a bit more tele in the latter
case....8-))
Fascinating toys though....even with the handheld model one can see
where people have been sitting in a room, which glass they used,
which car has parked last, and so on. The only odd thing compared to
normal optics is that it can't look through normal glass _at all_....:-))
For those living in Europe, and interested in this technology, please
contact me for the address of the distributor(s).
Even more surprising is the fact that, in contrast to high end night
vision tubes, no special police or military permit is needed to buy
them....they only need to be registered to prevent abuse, and/or
ending up in the wrong hands.
