Hi Eric,
I think you should try this out! Keep in mind that electronic flash
emits IR, VIS, and UV light.
I was wondering about the IR wavelengths that HIE film is exposed to
with a Wratten #87 filter, so I did an experiment.
I observed some fish in an aquarium with Infrared light source and
infrared night vision equipment.
It worked just fine, and it seemed that the fishes were not aware of
the infrared light that was beamed at them !
I understand that many fish are able to see beyond the red that humans
can perceive.
You might have to try experimenting with manual control and determine
the proper exposure by series of test exposures.
I've placed an 87C filter over the flash of my Canon Aqua Snappy
and no filter over the lens.
Let me know how your results turn out!
