Re: halogen lighting
My experience with light from a Halogen Lamp, is that it contains quite a lot of
IR in it. Unfortunately I couldn't quantify this for you from a detailed
spectral response point of view.
I recently used a halogen lamp with my Hoya R72 IR filter (equiv. 89B) over it
to illuminate myself whilst sleeping, so that I could video tape an entire night
using a 4Hr video tape on long play (giving 8hrs). The camera had enough
sensitivity in the deep red/near IR end of the spectrum to capture what I
needed, unfortunately my eyes were a bit too sensitive to the deep red light let
through by the R72 filter, so I had to wear a night mask( like they give out on
airline flights). Mind you it was a 50watt halogen globe!
You're probably wondering why on earth I wanted to video tape myself when
sleeping?? Well, my wife is deaf and doesn't sleep with her hearing aids in and
I have been accused of grinding my teeth at night!! So one way to convince
ourselves was to tape my entire slumber. Well I can tell you that it certainly
gave us some chilling evidence. About an hour after I fell asleep, this spine
tingling grinding sound accompanied by contorted lateral movements of my lower
jaw was clearly archived on the tape. It was rather disturbing for me to watch,
and so far I haven't continued to do so!! It's comforting news that my
orthodontist says he can make a plate to stop this if I like....

i was taking a walk this afternoon and saw a sign for a really cheapo
halogen worklight. and i`m thinking, hmmmmmm now would this work as a fake
studio lighting? it`s only $10 and i`m thinking, hmmm light up the kittens
and my (once-)beautiful yucca palm, with kits firmly attached of course,
and maybe my other two cats and try some portraits.
so, how does ir film go with halogen (& indoor) lighting? a def. no-no,
waste of time & money, or worth a shot?
siri [currently waiting for the t-max to reach a decent temp so she can
process some films, at the mo it's stubbornly sticking to 8C which is a tad
cold even for norway...]
