Agfa Scala as an Opaque Filter

To All:
Has anyone used the new Agfa Scala B/W transparency film yet? I have and am
really enjoying the results. As I was editing through a roll recently I
noticed that an unexposed frame was much darker than I am used to seeing
unexposed frames of normal color E6 processed film. I found a slide from
normal E6 film and compared the visual effects from holding the slides up to a
quartz halogen floor lamp we have. I immediately noticed that the Agfa slide
was not only much darker looking but passed much less light than the unexposed
frame from a roll of normal E6. So much so that I had no problem clearing
seeing the curl of the lamp filament through the frame of the Agfa Scala
slide.
The wheels began to grind...might this be used as an in-camera opaque filter?
I have read Andrew Davidhazy comments on this list and on other web sites
concerning using unexposed, processed chrome slides as IR filters. His point
was that the transmission qualities of the material was very similiar to that
of an 87c filter. I have been planning to convert a Yashica FX-3 rather than
my Contax 167T to an infrared 35mm SLR by mounting the E6 slide under the film
rail so I can use our variety of Zeiss lenses for IR but haven't had the time.
Now I am anxious to try this both the Agfa and the normal E6 frame to see what
effects I get. I will report as soon as I find out.
Willem and Andy -- I have a couple of extras if you would like one to perform
some tests of your own?
Regards from the Florida Suncoast,
Mike Brouphy
