Just thought I'd mention that I've seen very convincing evidence that
standard safelights do fog VC papers. The amount depends on the paper and,
of course, on the wattage and distance of the light. Somewhere on the
Kodak web site is a procedure for testing your situation. If this is
happening in your darkroom, the effect of drydown on the highlights is not
your biggest worry. You'll either get dull highlights or you'll be
underexposing to compensate for the non image light and reduce your contrast.
I have cut my wattage in half and now keep the light over the developer
tray,in particular,off. Zone VI has a new safelight that is supposed to
avoid this VC problem, but it's not cheap.
