Re: HIE with Bronica 35mm wide back

Hi all list members,

I encounter some problems with my Bronica 35mm wide back when using Kodak
HIE. I can't figure out what's the cause, hope someone can explain these.
I shot a few rolls of HIE with my Bronica SQa 35mm wide back a few year
back, the negative show, a) two round spots on every frame at the some
position, I think this is due to the screw holes on the pressure plate. b)
very faint vertical strips from top down between the sprocket holes,
gradually fade off toward the centre and it only show in the picture area.

I was very disappointed with the results, so I stop using it. But lately
Jaap Los said that he shot some HIE with his Bronica ETRSi 35mm wide back,
very happy with the result and never encounter these problems.

Two weeks ago, I paste a black sticker on my 35mm wide back pressure plate
and test a roll of HIE. The HIE was exposed at f16, 1/60 sec with 25A
filter; f16 1/15 sec with 87 filter using Bronica SQa 40mm lens. Negative
was using Tmax to process. From the negative and contact print, I notice the
problem a) is gone but problem b) is still there.

I examine the 35mm wide back, can't figure out the cause of it. It can't be
light leak, because outside the picture area is clear, not line or strips on
the sprocket holes area. It also can't be a processing problems, I shot
another roll of HIE a week before this, using Nikon FM2, using the same
developer, same processing tank and same method. Didn't show the same
problem b). By the way, the old negatives were using D76 to process, and
from the old negatives, problems a) and b) only show on those using Bronica
35mm wide back.

Does anyone knows what is the cause of this, and how can I avoid this. I
bought this 35mm wide back for shooting IR panorama picture. It is very sad
that I can't use it if the problem is insolvable. By the way this also part
of the reason
hinder me to shoot 70mm IR picture.

Thanks
