I think your problem with lack of sharpness on contact sheet is the film
was not in hard contact with the paper when you made the contact sheet.
I find Kodak's I-R extremely curly.

I went to a glass place where they have heavy glass like you see on
desktops. About 3/8" thick. I had them cut me a piece 11X14". When I put
that on top of the film strips, its weight holds them flat.
