Any flash is suitable for infrared, the ratio of IR to visible is about the
same as daylight. All you really need is and infrared filter over the front
to block visible light if you are wanting to go undetected. As far as the
'heat lamp' that is not as efficient at producing infrared as an ordinary
high wattage flood. The ratio there is about twice the IR to visible as
daylight, a common characteristic of incadescent lighting. The situation
encountered here is so much energy is being radiated you have a heat
dissipation problem if you put a filter on it to block the visible light.
Proper cooling will have to be devised to prevent damage to the filter
and/or a fire hazard.
An old fashioned flash bulb is probably similar in output to the high
wattage floodlight for IR content. Testing would be prudent, assuming you
could get your hands on them.
