Pico posts to this thread on modern SLRs & IR ...
All this talk about the difficulty of using a modern, highly advanced camera
for IR seems to indicate that it's simply not a good choice, and perhaps a
totally manual, nonelectric, simple camera would be best. Perhaps an old
Nikon F, Leica M, Olympus, Koni-Omega 6x7, etc...
This seems about right to me, even though I'm just now
beginning to use IR films. I have put the backing paper
from 120 film over the dimpled pressure plate in my
c. 1959 Pentax H2 and use it for my IR, generally working
around the suggested f16 @1/60th. I tend to use my wide
angle 24mm & 20mm the most, as they help in the focus shift.
So far just w/ a #25 red ( I need a 77mm one, though to eliminate
some serious vignetting I get using my 58mm one directly on
my Super-Takumar 20mm f4.5 -- it has a 77mm filter thread out
further in the lensshade) The 24mm is much better, but it's
not quite as dramatic as the 20mm ;^)
an aside to WJ -- perhaps it's time to get that IR material
for between the rails from you :) If you could drop me a note
on the details of getting some sent to Oregon, USA I would
appreciate it. The version that gives the IR-only w/ HIE.
