I like the 'marker-ink' theory, if only for the resemblance of my
name....:-))
But: have you carefully checked the foam around that film window?
All camera foam has to be replaced from time to time, be it film
window or back sealing....you might not notice it with ordinary
film, but HIE might be the acid test....this foam replacement is
also a very common & frequent service for medium format camera's &
backs....
Can you rule out that this foam was ever replaced before with a
cheaper quality, by a non-Canon repair center perhaps?
