Thanks for all the responses. I just had my second shot at it, and the
results appear to be much better. I developed it for 8 minutes in 1:1
dilution, at just under 75 degrees/24C (I set my camera's meter for ISO
200, as usual). Later on I'll make a few prints. Hopefully the grain will
be less evident than it has been in my D76 negs.
Oh, and I tried electrical tape again, to cover half the IR film counter.
The first time I tried it, it reduced it significantly, restricting the
effect mostly to the sprocket area, but I had the tape cut too long, so it
apparently scratched the negs (but maybe they came from something else).
This time, the fogging seems to be equally reduced, but there are hopefully
no scratches. I'll have to check the prints to be sure.
