Re: Anyone used the "fixed" NightShot camcorders yet?

After looking again at the ridiculous prices people are getting
for used NightShot cameras on ebay because of the hype, it struck
me that I'm really not risking anything by buying a new camera
and trying it out -- the worst that should happen is it won't
work and I'll sell it for a modest profit next month :-) So I
faxed off an order to B&H, and the camera shipped this morning.
An emailed reply to one of my queries suggests that there may
have been a programming change, rather than a hardware change,
to disable the NightShot function. Apparently other functions
are turned off via programming for some models sold in Europe,
for tax reasons, he said. If Sony did manage to start shipping
"fixed" cameras in just a week or two, it does seem likely that
it was a software change, not hardware.
It's interesting to see the comment from jason.revell@xxxxxxxxx
about shooting with a B+W 094 -- that's much darker than I'd
expected it to work with, but it is a filter I'd been
considering getting for use with HIE. Clearly deep enough that
I'd be doing very slow tripod shots, but I'm used to that from
shooting Konica 750 with an 87 gel. Anyone have a good supplier
for B+W 094 or Hoya RM90 filters in the U.S. in photographic,
not video, sizes, say 52mm? Or if not in the U.S., a good
international mail order source? (I don't suppose there's an
87A in the range of Cokin-sized resin filters?)
