Email I've received from several people on the rec.video
newsgroup suggests that all Sony has done is program the
camcorders to not operate the NightShot mode when the total light
hitting the CCD exceeds a certain limit.  One person suggested
that a Hoya RM90/Wratten 87A/B+W 094 was dark enough to let the
camera work in daylight, but he wasn't sure if lighter visually
opaque filters like the 87 or 87C would work.

Sony may fiddle with exactly how NightShot works, but I doubt
they will completely eliminate it from future models -- thanks to
all this hype, it has excellent name recognition.

In any case, I expect to have my camcorder Monday or Tuesday, and
will be sure to report on how it works.
