how to make photos in TOTAL darkness?

Hello!

Could you tell me: how to make a photo of face in almost total
darkness?

Is it possible to make such photos with, let's say, simple equipment?
(Minolta SPxi,600si+50/1.7+100-300 4.5-5.6)
Does the film record the length of infrared wave emitted by skin?
What should I use? special kind of infrared flash? or something else?
Can I make photographs undiscovered? :-)
Could you give me some links of homepages with such photos???
