Lith printing
To all,
THank you very much, Tim Rudman, for reacting on my message. I'm very
pleasantly surprised, that I generated so many reactions on my questions
about Lith printing. In the meantime I didn't sit still and I spent
about five evenings in my darkroom fighting with Lith paper and
developer. At first many things went wrong, but gradually I got the
feeling and I produced some wonderful images from some of my IR
negatives. They are so beautiful, they look like paintings. I showed
them to my comrades of the Photoclub and they were very impressed. They
spoke about art-pictures and of course I felt like the heroe of that
evening! I will get a new scanner within a couple of weeks and I will
certainly put those pictures on my homepage.
It was during that week (8 weeks ago), when I suffered from a cold/flue
that I read an article about Lith printing in a Dutch Photomagazine. The
writer adviced me to buy the book of Tim Rudman (Photographers's Master
Printing Course), a box of Sterling paper and LD20 Lith developer. It
all came from the UK as there was none in Holland (very expense!) By the
way Tim, did you know, that the instruction leaflet coming with the
developer is an exact copy of the chapter in your book! For the coming
month I 've planned to Lith-print IR negatives only, as the effects are
more beautiful than printing ordinary negatives.
I have still have some questions:
1. The Sterling paper only comes in 24x30 cm size. Is there an other
size available in the UK? What is the UK-price?
2. What is the UK-price of the LD20 developer for 4 litres of stock
solution?
3. I noticed that the developer gets exhausted very soon after about 6
sheets of Sterling 24x30 cm (9 1/2 x 12 "). I now use 35 cc A and 35 cc
B and add water for one litre (dilution appr. 1+13). Temperature 20 C
(68 F). I have also used dilution 1 + 20, but developing times are very
long (over 30 to 40 min. for the last 2 or 3 prints). I have once tried
to revive the developer by adding 1 teaspoon of each enclosed sachets,
but that didn't noticably boost up the capacity of the developer. Is
there an other way to improve the capacity of the developer?
4. What is the ISBN number of Tim's new book about Lith printing? It is
not available in Holland. What is the price in the UK? --
I would like to advice all list-members to try Lith-printing their IR
negatives. A new world will open and you will not regret it. I know,
that all list members like the (dramatic) effects of IR printing. Lith
printing will add an entirely new dimension to this. Try it!!
Best regards,
