I was wondering, have you tried using aluminum foil to cover the
window? Make some strips, line them up so they overlap a bit, then use duct
tape to paste them together, and to hold the blanket to the window frame.

I am lucky to have a room that only has a 2x2 foot wondow that I can
tape in this way, with a wood door that is away from any direct light. I
load with my back to the closed door, of course, since people here in the
past have said wood can transmit IR even if it blocks visible light
sufficiently (I remember someone saying his darkroom fogged his HIE because
one wall was wood, though the room was dark of all visible light), but
directly in front of the covered window. So far, no problems, so I never
set out to foil the door, too.

I didn't think loading at night posed a time problem, but if you had
to load a roll or two in the daytime for some reason, hopefully the tin foil
tip would be of some help.

Don't forget to make the foil blanket wide enough to cover the wood
around the window, too.
