incandescent wood

Intrigued by the recent discussion of less than dark darkrooms -
ones that let in IR, it got me thinking about how to tell if the wood
door on my darkroom was IR safe.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 250 watt infrared heat lamp.( the kind
that they use
in restaurants to keep the bacteria in food at the right temp for
incubation ; )
I mounted it in a fixture and put it outside the wood door.

Inside with the lights off and a video camera in nightshot mode it was
easy to
see the inside structure of the door. Quite amazing.
Viewing the door with just the normal room lighting outside doesn't
show anything
according to the videocam.
