I agree with George - I've continued my testing on this, attempting to find
the right combo. The results so far - Rating HIE at ASA 200 with a #25
filter is not far out of the range. I shot a full roll and developed in
Xtol (1/1), 70 degrees, 30 second agitate, single roll in a dual tank
developed for 13 minutes and its quite nice! The best exposures seemed to
be 1/2 to 1 stop below the recommended reading from my in camera meter (a
Canon A1) so, this seems to indicate a slight underexposure or maybe a bit
of overdevelopment. Hmmm. Strip development is a bit tough for me (kitchen
sink darkroom right now) so I can't give you comparisons yet, but I'll keep
trying. In the mean time, I'm trying it from the other direction -
establishing a good ASA for the development times I'm using. I'm going to
stick to the 200 ASA for now. I've got a roll shot with gray cards and grey
scales that I'm waiting to get to my friends densitometer. I'll recalculate
from there! Bye the way - the Xtol is mixed from plain old tap water run
through a charcoal filter unit - I live in a semi-rural area and the water
is quite good (and it makes excellent homebrewed beer!) so I typically use
no other water source - for the film or the beer!!

Just a quick line to tell everyone on this mailing how much I enjoy the
intelligent comments, banter and ideas put forth here. This is proving to
be one of my better finds in a long time. Thanks again!

Kevin
