One can meter through the #25 filter, my preferred method of
determining exposure. After doing this a while, one can visually
relate to the settings that will work well with their particular style.
One can see which scenes will present the film with more or less
infrared radiation.
When this happens, it is easy to substitute an opaque filter and
add however many stops of exposure might be required. Beginning
with an opaque filter could simply add to the difficulties of the
person just starting to use this film.
Certainly, this isn't the only way to do things. However, it's the
way I did things and it worked well for me. I believe in small steps.
