I have shot HIE at EI 1000 with success.  Of course, the 
characteristics are quite different from those produced via EI 250, 
but "normal" shooting speed for HIE.  BTW, I meter mine through a 
#25 filter.

I normally shoot at f16-f22 and keep the visible light focus.  This 
may not work well if you are using a long lens or shooting close.
