I have the original Rebel model (aka 1000?), which was my main camera for
years. I was afraid to use it for infrared until I checked the list of models
and discovered the original does not use the IR sensor. I finally put one
roll of HIE through last month (with a little piece of tape over the back
window) and there was no edge fogging (except my overexposures). This is good
as I had an unfortunate Wind-and-unstable-tripod accident at Bodie, CA that
put my old Canon AE-1P out of commission for now.

Anyway, since the original Rebel was so cheap to begin with, I would imagine
it is pretty cheap on the used market. It is NOT auto everything as some
people seem to think - it allows all the manual controls you would need for
IR. It does not have DOF preview, which is sort of irrelevant for IR anyway.
So if you are using the EOS system I recommend this as a good extra body for IR.
