Actually, most meter are IR sensitive. However, the problem is that they are
not calibrated in that range. This is why I have tested my meters with HIE
(HSI) and Konica IR by placing a #25 meter over it. The solution is certainly
not perfect, and there is definitely subjectivity linked to its use, but with
experience, one can get pretty darn close. I no longer bother bracketing and my
exposures are always within half a stop of being right on.
Remember, if you go through the hassle of optimizing a meter for IR, you will
still have the visible component to deal with. That could mean using two
meters. <<shudder>>
