Welcome to the list, David Sprinkle!

"Secondly, I suspect that this topic has probably been
discussed to death
on this newsgroup, so please accept my apology "

Actually it's hardly ever talked about! Most people
make prints and have no desire to pay the extra money
to get direct positive slides.

"A few months ago, I read Jim Henderson's posting
...which he describes the speed gains
available from Kodak's HIE infrared when processed
with Kodak's T-Max
direct positive kit
The target was illuminated with four tungsten bulbs.
Although I realize that
visible-light meter readings are suspect when shooting
infrared, an
in-camera meter indicated a proper exposure of 1/8s,
f4 for ASA50."

First, Did you meter through a red 25 filter?
Secondly I really don't think it matters that you
didn't get the speed gains others have gotten. You've
already gotten the hardest part done: indivdual
testing and calibration of your light meter to
infrared film exposure. You now have a good starting
exposure that you can bracket around for achieving
properly exposed slides.

Lastly, I'd be interested in hearing about how your
next roll comes out. I've always wanted to try
developing IR film via Tmax's direct positive
chemistry but have never done so yet, mostly because
of the lack of information about this procedure.

Peace Rolland Elliott
