Dear Jim,

I think Kodak has a lot "to answer for" in manufacturing film - HSI - that 
has flaws in the emulsion. But these flaws are tiny voids that print like 
black pinholes. I NEVER heard of film that came with scratches.

BTW, where are these scratches, emulsion or base? Many 4x5 holders will put 
some fine marks on the base side, from loading.
