OK here's the question. I have usually shot 35mm kodak IR. I use an IR
lightmeter that my stepfather designed and built for me, so my exposures are
usually pretty good. I also use the Graflex XL system and before that a
Century Graphic. About a year ago I bought a box of 4x5 high speed IR and
cut it down to 2x3 for us in cut film holders. Problem there was that the
darkslide area tended to leak light. So I bought a 2x3 grafmatic. Works
very well with respect to light leaks.
Recently I shot a bunch of the Kodak film in the XL with it. These were
high contrast mountain scenes (mid day, bright sun, snow and sky).
Developed this in sheet film hangers with d-76, stock, 10 minutes (my usual
procedure.) Slightly over-exposed results, but not too bad. The problem is
that all of the sheets when printed show bunches of tiny black spots like
pinholes in the emulsion. Any ideas as to cause? This film did not do this
before. Could this be a developing problem? Could it be the product of the
graphmatic septums behind the sheets? (The septums are a set of six flat
black painted metal sheet holders.) Could it be the age of the film?
Anyone with any experience of this problem, please let me know what you
found to be the source. THANKS!
