Printers are not the weak link for getting good digital output. The
currently available Epson 750 and 1200 printers are already capable of
producing high quality prints up to 13x19 inches that are as good as silver
if the appropriate papers and inks are used (see
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/digital_b&w.htm). There are also two new
Epson photo printers coming out this year that are even better. The weak
link is the size of the consumer level digital camera ccd, which is about
2-3 megapixels for the current crop of cameras. These cameras are only
capable of producing image files that will produce high quality prints up to
about 6x8 inches. You might get a few passable 8x10 prints, but anything
larger really requires higher resolution.
