Hi Brian,

I have been using HIE for a long time and what I do is I always meter thru
the filter. I adjust EI to 640 ASA. Metering thru holds for #25,#29,#89B and
#87C. I develop at 20 C undiluted D76 for 10 min. I use Nikon N90s, N70 and
FA with the same method. Eventhough I bracket for +1 and -1 stop, I usually
get a good one in the middle. Lately I quitted bracketting and from time to
time shot another one with +1 stop. This saves me the film. The main reason
why I use bracketting is not to get the best exposure but to get the best
pinholeless negative which I can not get ride off. Lately a friend from this
list advice me to prepare the D76 in pure water. What I did was to use rhe
car battery water in preparing and I got lesser pinholes. Hopefully it is
not psycological but pure water technique together with a little bit less
denser negative gave lesser pinhole suitation.

I use filter with Cokin P type filter holder. This is the main reason why I
do not prefer between the film trailers. This method will speed you in
shooting since you will be able to see what you are doing or shooting. In my
case after fixing the position I put the filter in the holder and shut down
the viewer window at the back. Another point is that I really see not too
much difference between the filter and the result from the point view of
cutting down to what wavelength but still using #87C to get the best in the
case where it differs.

I used the same filters with Technical Pan and got quite good pictures using
#25 and #29. In #89B it needs bracketing and got nothing using #87C. I never
got pinholes whatever I use for development.

I have sent samples of negative and prints to Mr. R. Johnson as the final
approach to finalize my pinhole acknowledgement to Kodak for his inspecting
and he still inspects more than 6 weeks. I believe that may take more since
I have been asking help from Kodak more than 6 months now on the issue,
several feedbacks come but none was curing or helpful to my problems. I
understand that I have to live with my pinholes on HIE Type 2481 150ft.
bulk.

I usually print the final to mat or semi-mat papers. I got the best
apperence with semi-mat RC Ilford paper. It also gives chance to play with
normal soft pencil to minimize the faults like dust which gives white clue
on the final print. Nowadays I will try to understand what I can do on
pinholes. My plan is to reduce with very pointed brush using Farmer's
reducer. If it will go to full white I will follow the pencil method. Anothe
one I will be trying is to use small model matt paints and than making the
final finish with matt cote.

That is teh whole story in short.

Regards

Ibrahim
