Development or Exposure?

Hi there,

My latest roll of HIE (acually the first one I developed myself) turned
out much better than the first one. No fogging this time, but still, the
film is very dense. I wonder if this is from over-exposure or
over-development.

I took my pictures on a sunny morning (itīs winter here!) in a
greenhouse with my FM2. ASA setting was 800 and I metered through the
lens with a #29 dark red filter in front of it. Should have been 1 or 2
stops less???

For development I used Tetenal Ultrafin 1+20, 17 minutes. I computed
this based on D-76 development times by Laurie White compared with how
D-76 and Ultrafin are used with Delta 400. What do you think?

The film base is still clear, and there is still some (little) contrast
in the lights but the overall impression is: heavily overexposed. Apart
from that my images turned out sharp and typical infrared-like.

Greetings, Martin.
