Ah, but that's not the same: IMO, the interesting thing about the halos
on HIE and (to a lesser degree) on Konica IR is the fact, that only the
brightest objects show halations, while the rest of the picture looks
sharp. I don't think you can achieve this effect by simply putting a
softener in front of your lens...
