I also, another question, found some of my negs to be very soft

I'm not an optics buff at all ;-), but... If you missed the point in
hyperfocal focussing, wouldn't the foreground turn out sharp, while
distant objects were somewhat blurred? I mean, it's not very likely that
the whole image gets "softened", is it? ??
