Hello infrared list, my name is David Romano and I learned about this
list while surfing around the web. I work at Agfa in the US as an
engineer making laser imagesetters and platesetters. I have a BFA in
photography and did my thesis project/show with 35 mm infrared. I love
the Kodak HIE film, it is by far the most beautiful film I've used. In
school it was introduced to us as a "use it if you want to, its really
expensive and you have to bracket like crazy" film. So, I built my own
IR meter and I don't bracket (as much) anymore. Also, I meter through
the lens with a Canon A-1, using a #87 filter over the lens. I set my
ASA to 6400, meter off of zone 4 and shoot. I'd like to try putting the
filter between the film rails. For lenses, I prefer 24 mm and 50 mm.
I prefer the same types of subjects using IR as with regular B&W film,
only compositions differ mostly. I like architecture and landscape and
also nudes, but I prefer very abstract nudes normally using only one
light source and never including faces. I don't like the typical
"landscape with nude" infrared photos. I have a darkroom in my cellar
with a 4x5 diffusion color enlarger and a sink which I built capable of
handling 4 20x24 trays. I prefer Agfa FB Multicontrast Classic for warm
tones and Ilford Multicontrast FB for colder tones. I develop my regular
B&W in PMK pyro and my HIE in HC-110. For infrared, I currently shoot
only the 35 mm HIE film, but I am looking into using imagesetting film
that is IR sensitive for 4x5 an 8x10 work. Some day I would like to
print them on Platinum/Palladium paper.
I look forward to contributing toand learning from this list
David
