I'm not sure why you're bringing up this theory, as it doesn't seem to
have much to do with the real pinhole problem. Have you looked at a
pinhole on HIE with a good magnifier? What you will see is that there is
NO emulsion on the film at that point, pretty obviously a coating
problem. Kodak have admitted to Stan Patz that it's a manufacturing
fault.
I doubt that Kodak go applying sticky tape to the middle of films, and I
don't think hand-winding my old Cosina will generate too much static!
The remaining mystery in all this is how do Kodak know where there will
be an area of smooth tone in the best shot I'll take all day?
