Stan noted earlier in the week:

"In my discussions with Dick Johnson at Kodak, he talked about a problem

had with HIE. Matte beads are placed in an overlying coating to keep

piece of film from abrading the emulsion. At one point in the
manufacturing,
these matte beads were migrating into the sensitized emulsion, causing
the
voids we call pinholes. Kodak has now corrected the problem."
These are the little blighters that drive most of us mad! I don't use
HSI but all the HIE pinholes I've examined are consistent with the above
explanation.
