Kevan,

Hey, welcome to the mailing list.  I don't usually put my two cents in, but 
I'm making an exception in this case.  The only thing I know is that you 
should probably forget about trying to meter through your lens.  You should 
also forget about trying to rate the film.  Since you are new at this, take 
this advice because it always works for me.  If you are shooting with Kodak 
HIE, then wait for a bright sunny day and set your camera at 125/f16.  I 
also use a Cokin 003 and a red 25.  You can flip flop between f16 and f11.  
If it's a bright day, f8 will overexpose your film every time.  F22 is also 
usually too small.  Shoot a whole roll this way and see what you get.  Also, 
the little holes you are seeing are probably not from air bubbles.  It's 
probably the emulsion.  You'll need to ask someone else about that though.
