I guess that depends then on the type of conifers then...  The main sort we
find here are all introduced, mostly pine trees with fine needles and you
can photograph a hill side forest and count them amongst the native trees.

Ben,

Now this is getting interesting :-)  The trees I shot were probably Scotch
Firs which could well have a coarser needle.

Shot a load of Utah Cyprus trees when in the US a few weeks ago which have
fairly fine needles and have yet to develop those rolls of film.  Will let
you know if they give the "wood effect".  My bet is that they will.  Will
have to search through my negs for pine trees - am sure I have some with
the wood effect, however this species difference is not something that has
been identified on the list before.

Would be great to see some examples if you have them available.
