wow! at $40 a roll, I'd either be very rich after all the rolls I have
processed, or very poor if I had sent them all out to that lab!
It is not that hard to process your own film. Just need a changing bag, you
have to unload in the dark..... I load the film on the reels and all that in
the dark bag. You need a light tight film can, usually stainless steel
works best. I have never learned to roll on steel reels :-( so I have to
use plastic ones and plastic tanks. I have found the Paterson tanks to be IR
resistant, however, I am a bit over cautious as I keep the film tank in a
black plastic bag (left over from 8x10 or 11x14 paper) . I then use HC110
"A" solution for 6 minutes and then stop bath for one minute and fixer for 10
minutes. I am now doing IR processing for local photographers, but I am
located in Central Florida. I use the "A" solution because it gives me
stronger contrast in my images. I like clean whites and strong blacks. I
also process only under the red lights.... I don't turn on normal lights in
my darkroom until after the fixer has been on for 5 minutes. That may be
overly cautious, but I do what works for me. Good luck! It's worth trying !
Let me know how it goes.
