I often use an FM-2n for shooting IR film. At times I've used BTFR, but I
usually use red 25 over the lens and a "sunny 16" rule and use 50ASA as a
start and don't pay much attention to the meter.
Most cameras won't do well at metering IR. Some folks here on the list have
modified their cameras to do a better job. Once I gained some experience
with IR film, I was able to get good exposures without worrying the meter.
One gains a "feel" for IR using what ever method they find comfortable.
While some have gone to quite elaborate lengths to build an IR light meter
(and at times I wouldn't mind one of these) I find it largely unnecessary.
I think my FM does a great job.
Good luck,
R. Gary Hall
