Haven't tried the D-30. I have successfully used the D-1 for Infrared. see
http://www.warterfield.com Then go to the galleries and then b/w
Infrared. The Bridge and the mansion are D-1 infrared.

The camera does have IR filtering. These shots were achieved after much
experimentation to find the correct exposure. I used the Lindahl Bellows
and an 87-c drop-in filter. The camera was set to ISO 200 f/11 and quality
to b/w. The exposures were about 3 to 5 seconds. The focus is not
particularly sharp as the image 'burns' it's way passed the cameras
protection.

I have seen beautiful results from the nikon coolpix 950 in infrared. I
understand that it has a lesser IR pass filter.
