Clever. Would be nice if no mods were
necessary but this is much better than
cutting the side off (something I was
afraid would be required).
So, with your configuration, is it easy to see
the corners of both L and R simultaneously (i.e
without shifting your head relative to the viewer)?
Do you wear glasses or not?
I wouldn't worry about I/O adjustment. When you
have big diameter lenses* spaced at slightly more
than the infinity spacing of your slides then every
can view without diverging their eyes.
If you move the lenses together (less than inf
spacing) then it helps people with narrow set eyes
see the whole image, but they then have to diverge
their eyes.
(* assuming these loupes are big enough dia)
I'm highly tempted to whip up a viewer based on
these loupes. The price is somewhat higher than
the surplus lenses many of us have bought but it
does solve the lens holder problem and gives you
focusing too.
