There are lots of things people _say_ that are not actually true. 
Here are some examples:

Reading in dim light will damage your eyes.
Drinking alcohol will warm you up.
The speed of light is always the same.
Bogart said, "Play it again, Sam."
Hot water makes ice cubes faster than cold water.
If you drink Coke with aspirin, you'll get drunk.
You can get pregnant from kissing.
The 1/30 ratio is so correct and universal we call it a "rule".
