I know it's been quite a while...I apologize for the
delays.  I ran into some snags on configuring the list
settings, and ran out of time and patience to get it
worked out.  A few minutes ago I finally figured out
what was causing the problems.

The mailing list software I have available does permit
configuration for replies to go to the list, but with
one limitation: if you have a "reply-to" setting in
your mail software, the list processor will leave that
setting *intact* and will NOT override it with the list
address.  (It is generally only necessary to have a
"reply-to" setting if you have replies sent to an
address different from your posting address.)

If this is an acceptable situation to everyone here,
I can go ahead and activate the new list.  If it will
be a problem, then I'll go with the backup plan, which
is to have the list set up by Bill Costa at UNH.
