Yes, the camera can remain in the case while on the tripod but it's
bothersome.  For me, the case is a protection against damage.  If it's on
my neck, I might drop it, swing it into something, knock it off a table.
On the tripod, it's pretty safe.

Also, the flap is in the way.  And it's ugly.  Otherwise, I'd probably
leave it on.
