  Sorry, I didn't mention that it was basically
about dimming line powered bulbs. It was more
a pointer to the difficulty in doing it well.

  I do recall, and can maybe dig up some postings
by John Vala about "his" source of small fl bulbs
and ballasts. I do recall him saying the brightness
varied with voltage which was good if you wanted to
use it for dimming purposes but bad if you just wanted
constant light from a battery supply.

  Yeah, and give use the ones that were accidentally
correctly exposed (professionally mounted of course :)
