Note that most parts of this article apply to countries with 220 volts.
Apparently, the 120v in the USA makes dimming florescents more problematic.
And I didn't see anything that seemed useful for battery powered
applications, at least for the layman.

Maybe you could just underexpose your slides?  :^)
