It could be a number of things, but none of them could be solved without
pulling the shutter apart.  It's not terminal, but you'd need to
disassemble it.

I might add that you can get a Kalimar external timer for $15 or so on
eBay.  So if you are afraid you'd break it, you could avoid disassembling
it.

I am certainly no expert, just trying to lend a hand.  Anybody else want to
weigh in?  :^)
